Marquette University has a deep rooted tradition in basketball.  The Golden Eagles' basketball team is ranked 9th in the league for the total number of appearances in post season games.   In 1974, Coach Al Maguire led the team all the way to the championship finals where they placed second.  Finally, in 1977, McGuire's team won the finals.  To this day, they are only team in Marquette's history to have won a championship title.   Al McGuire is in the basketball hall of fame for his accomplishments as coach of the then Warriors.  In 2004, Marquette erected the Al McGuire center to honor the beloved coach.   Fans with Marquette basketball tickets know that currently, the men's team uses this center only as a practice facility. 

Marquette Basketball Great Dwayne Wade

Another notable season in Marquette basketball history was the 2002-2003 season.  Then junior Dwayne Wade led the team to win the Conference USA conference title, the first ever and only time in school's history.  The Golden Eagles went all the way to the finals for the first time since winning the championship in 1977. Wade scored a triple double thus earning him MVP for the Midwest region of the tournament.  T his performance caused Wade to skip his senior year and go directly into playing professional basketball.

Currently, Marquette's basketball team plays in the Big East conference where they have been members since 2005.  Other members of the conference include Louisville, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Georgetown, Syracuse, Villanova, St. John's, DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Notre Dame.  Traditionally, Marquette has had strong rivalries with Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, DePaul, UW-Madison.  Each year, Marquette fans reserve their Marquette basketball tickets for these exciting games between major rivals.
