Desmond Tremaine Mason was born October 11, 1977 in Waxahachie, Texas. He attended college at Oklahoma State University where he finished ranked fourth on Oklahoma State's all-time scoring list (1,702), fourth in rebounding (795), fourth in steals (158) and second in games played (129. Mason also started 104 consecutive games which set the school record.

He was drafted after college by the Seattle Super Sonics with the 17th pick of the 2000 NBA Draft. During his time with the Sonics, he became the first player in franchise history to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2001.

In 2003, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Ray Allen. In October 2005, he was traded to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets in exchange for Jamaal Magloire. In July 2007 Mason signed a contract with the Bucks after a 2-season absence. He averaged 13.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 34.3 minutes in a career-high 75 starts during the 2006-07 season. He was also the team's fourth leading scorer and third leading rebounder.

At the end of the 2007-2008 season, Mason had an average of 9.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. His playing time was just shy of 30 minutes per game.
