More Info
Milwaukee drafted Marques Johnson in the third round of the 1977 NBA draft by Mr. Don Nelson. Johnson played his college ball at UCLA under the famous John Wooden. In his sophomore year, he was part of a college championship team. In 1976, Marques won the first ever John R. Wooden award.
Considered one of the best small forwards in the NBA, Johnson was part of a Bucks team that won five division titles. He ranked as a top scorer in the 1978 season with a 26 point scoring average. His best year as a Buck could very well be the 1982 season. That year, he had 363 assists, and scored over 1700 points in 80 games.
In 1984 Marques Johnson was traded to the L.A. Clippers. That move made it all that much harder for Johnson to stand out. The Clippers never came close to a championship.
Marques suffered from a serious neck injury in 1986.
